Amazon Studios released a teaser trailer for Don’t Worry, He Won’t Get Far on Foot, a new movie from Gus Van Sant (Good Will Hunting, My Private Idaho, To Die For, Milk, Drugstore Cowboy) starring Joaquin Phoenix (Inherent Vice, The Master, Walk the Line, Gladiator, Her), Jonah Hill (The Wolf of Wall Street, Superbad, Moneyball, 21 Jump Street), Rooney Mara (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, The Social Network, Her) and Jack Black (School of Rock, Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, King Kong).

I’m not a big fan of Gus Van Sant although he had some good movies in his career. But this looks interesting and I expect great performance from Joaquin Phoenix. Don’t Worry, He Won’t Get Far on Foot, based on a true story, is a drama/comedy about Portland slacker John Callahan (Joaquin Phoenix) who nearly loses his life in a car accident and during his treatment discovers a gift for drawing newspaper cartoons that develop a national following and grant him a new lease on life. The movie is an adaptation of Callahan’s autobiography and directed by two-time Oscar® nominee Gus Van Sant.

Here’s a trailer.

Official description:

After Portland slacker John Callahan (Joaquin Phoenix) nearly loses his life in a car accident, the last thing he intends to do is give up drinking. But when he reluctantly enters treatment – with encouragement from his girlfriend (Rooney Mara) and a charismatic sponsor (Jonah Hill) – Callahan discovers a gift for drawing edgy, irreverent newspaper cartoons that develop a national following and grant him a new lease on life. Based on a true story, this poignant, insightful and often funny drama about the healing power of art is adapted from Callahan’s autobiography and directed by two-time Oscar® nominee Gus Van Sant. Jack Black, Carrie Brownstein, Beth Ditto and Kim Gordon also star.
