Baby (Elgort) is a young and extremely capable getaway driver that pays his debt to a crime boss, Doc (played by Kevin Spacey), by driving Doc’s people to secure spots after the robberies. He also has a tinnitus, a medical condition that results in constant noise or ringing in his ears. So Baby listens to music all the time (he carries an iPod with himself) to keep himself focused.
Baby Driver is the fifth movie from director Edgar Wright, known for Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz, Scott Pilgrim and At World’s End. The story in this one is nothing special but the realization of these ideas somehow is. Music plays a big part in this movie and Wright and his team masterfully blended events on screen with music. I don’t know how to better describe this, you need to see it :).
Direction is very good, action scenes, car chases and soundtrack also, actors are having fun and movie is really fun and exciting. And for the first two thirds, it is a very good movie. Unfortunately last third of the movie is not that great and I had a feeling like Wright didn’t know how to finish it (I can’t go into details without spoilers). It’s too bad because it lowers overall impression of the movie.
Nevertheless, it is a fun action movie that stands out from the competition and I can give you the recommendation to check it out.
