Get Out is a new movie from Blumhouse Productions, a company that in last year released a couple of original and cheap movies that achieved big success, commercially and critically (Split, Don’t Breathe). And Get Out is their most successful and best movie so far.

It tells a story about Chris, a young African American (Daniel Kaluuya) who’s going with his white girlfriend Rose to meet her parents for a weekend in their secluded estate. At first, they seem nice and polite but soon Chris will uncover a terrible secret.

It is best that you know as little as possible before viewing this movie. It is not some generic movie with a well-known story. This is a different horror movie (actually this is more a thriller than a horror movie) with a really interesting story and very good atmosphere that also manages to incorporate social critique. You see, when Chris first meet his girlfriend’s family they seem nice but the whole time you have a feeling that something is wrong here. And it is :).

The movie doesn’t rely on a cheap jump scares; its creepy atmosphere is accomplished by much smarter decisions. In the first two thirds, some characters are behaving strangely but everyone acts like everything is normal. Actors also did a pretty good job and there are actually a couple of excellently acted scenes.

Of course, Get Out has some problems (they could left out some scenes and I didn’t like Rod, Chris’ friend) but nonetheless it is one of the better movies of 2017.

You can check it out on Amazon if you’re interested.
