Logan Lucky is the first movie from director Steven Soderbergh since announcing his retirement from film in 2013 (his last movie was Behind the Candelabra). A couple of years later, Soderbergh, known for movies like Traffic, Oceans 11, 12 and 13, Erin Brockovich, Out of Sight and Sex, Lies and Videotape, decided to make a new movie and distribute it by cutting out studios so he can have full creative control.

And did it pay off? Well, financially Logan Lucky didn’t make much money, but Soderbergh made a pretty good movie. It’s actually much better than I expected. You see, Logan Lucky is similar to Oceans 11 and it seemed like this would be a poor copy of a better movie with worse actors. But I was wrong and if you liked Oceans 11 I’m pretty sure you’ll like this one too.

The story, although nothing new, is pretty good and mostly convincing (there are couple of scenes that are little harder to believe), most of the characters are well-written and likeable (hillbillies), actors did a pretty good job and soundtrack is one of the better this year (some tracks provided by talented David Holmes who already collaborated with Soderbergh on Oceans trilogy and Out of Sight).

So I recommend you to check this movie, it’s actually better than most of the bigger movies of 2017. Logan Lucky is nothing new or especially original but it is a well-written and fun heist comedy with likable characters, good performances and very good soundtrack.
